Registration Process for Merit Badge Counselors

There is no fee for becoming a merit badge counselor. You need only to submit the Merit Badge Counselor application form and a BSA Adult Application Form upon initial registration (Position code 42.)
For subsequent years, Counselor registration does not require a BSA Adult Application Form but, you must submit confirmation of your continued interest in serving as a merit badge counselor on an annual basis.

New Merit Badge Counselors:

  1. Complete the BSA adult application and a MBC counselor application. On the adult application, where it asks for position code use “42” and for position use “Merit Badge Counselor”. Adult applications are in the Scout hut or may be found at:   http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/524-501A.pdf
  2. Complete the Merit Badge Counselor form, also at the Scout hut or via this link: https://www.troop39.net/links_resources/forms/NEGA_MB_Counselor_Registration.pdf
  3. Mail both forms to:

Existing Merit Badge Counselors:

Once you are recognized as a Merit Badge Counselor, you may add other merit badges
to your repertoire simply by filling out the MBC application. See #2 & 3 above.
